The Leader and the Gang

In this year’s Leadership Victoria Lecture, titled The Leader and the Gang, delivered by University of Melbourne Vice Chancellor Glyn Davis, the traits of leadership were again looked, but this time with a twist.  In his opening Prof Davis said the academic study of leadership has found no laws or formulas to follow in choosing or becoming a leader.  He also said “The term natural leader is a revealing one; a leader who simply emerges from the group without the need for any formal process of selection or appointment.”

Swarm Creativity

In one of my recent Masters classes, one of my students presented some information on Swarm Creativity, which I had not previously heard of by that name.  While the class worked on a team projects I was able to power browse the book, and later did a bit of research on the web.

Mentoring for Creativity and Innovation

A recent BRW article (Power of One on One – 1-7 May 08) by Kath Walters said that mentoring is a good way to promote innovative thinking within companies, yet few chief executives make use of it.  It goes on to say that a report by Deloitte, based on talks with 480 chief executives, found that the lack of skilled staff is stifling the ability of companies to innovate. American Creativity Association (ACA) Conference - February 08 Singapore

The first ever American Creativity Association (ACA) conference held outside the United States was held in the last week of February, and what a week it was. Kirpal Singh, Chair of the Organising Committee, and his brilliant team did a fabulous job in welcoming participants from more than 30 countries, and Singapore turned on treat for us all.

After wonderful and colourful dance performances by groups of local Malay, Indian and Chinese school students, the conference was opened by Zainul Abidin Rasheed, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
