Walt Disney said “It’s fun doing the impossible.” And in many ways doing the impossible begins with imagination, backed up with deliberate action to engineer the vision into reality – what is called Imagineering. While this is easily explained and not difficult to understand, we know from our own experience it can be tough to do.
Nevertheless realising possibilities requires that we apply Imagineering principles, and fortunately everyone does this in different ways throughout their lives. Whether it is simply visualising a faster way to get to work (or home) or creating a new business, ‘seeing’ what you want and taking action to achieve it is something we all do – to some degree. But the use of a deliberate process for visualisation and action is even more powerful. This is real Imagineering.
Imagineering can be done in many ways from the sports person visualising the perfect shot and practicing to get it just right, to the Sales Rep experiencing the perfect cold call before it is made, to the Managing Director inspiring her team with a vision to achieve greater heights. It can be done in one’s own mind or in teams with creative imagery, flow charts, Mind Maps, BHAGs, and even financial charts and statistics.
It is one of the most powerful and important tools in our Deliberate Creative Thinking kit and one we use often in facilitations. It is one you should know more about, and to help you understand it better we want to give you access to one of the eLessons we use in an online program we run with clients and in our University Lecturing. We have more than 50 videos in our Online Deliberate Creativity & Innovation course and this one on Imagineering is just one of 4 videos in Module Three: Opportunity and Focus.
