Ideas to remember music

It has been really interesting over the past 12 months since I started to learn to play the guitar. I have asked many teachers and guitarists how the remember songs, chords, music etc and they just say ' by rote" or "never thought of it that way".

I have had to invent a few techniques (see http://www.fuzz2buzz.com/en/node/1499) and Mind Map many songs (see http://www.fuzz2buzz.com/en/node/84)

So I am on the hunt for your hints and tips on how to remember music.

Any thoughts, tips or ideas that we can share with others would be greatly appreciated!!

I find the best way to learn

I find the best way to learn music, if there is a recording available is, listen to the recording enough times that you can replay the whole song in your head, so you can recognise the arrangment etc... This is very easy if you actually like the song. Then when it comes to learning to play, its usually a breeze and only a couple of repititions and its only polishing off left to do. Anyway hopes this helps, its they way i try to learn anyway.
