Only be creative on days ending in Y

Today is the day to switch on your creativity – whatever day it is.  Here are a few tips to harness it on a daily basis.

Monday – Work the plan – Plan out your week and set time to think about key issues. Short, sharp thinking sessions of 30 minutes will create breakthroughs.

Tuesday –  Cheap Tuesday – look around at what other companies are doing. Think about how you can apply different concepts such as: - Movie Theatres stimulate business on slowest day by decreasing prices.
Wednesday – Hump Day  (middle of the week) Take 15 minutes to focus on the big humps/hurdles  coming up . Write down three potential actions.

Thursday –  Billboard Thinking
– As you drive into work, ponder on how information is presented on billboards – What would your job look if it was on a billboard? How could you get your project to stand out in the organization like a billboard? Write your problem as if it was a billboard slogan.

Friday – Happy Hour – Order a few soft drinks and pizzas and invite the team to have fun trying to solve problems from your Ideas Bank. Animal scientists in Melbourne do this on a regular basis and turned the idea of “Glow in the dark Dog Poo” into a real breakthrough of ‘glowing’ molecules.

Saturday – Sports day – After you drop the kids off to sports practice, go for a brisk walk or head to the gym. Getting the heart pumping gets more oxygen to your brain and will stimulate those creative brain cells.

Sunday – Brain Recharge
– Take time out to relax and experience new things. Going to the museum, art gallery, concerts in the park, and a drive up the mountains will stimulate ideas.  Going to a small market in South Africa led to a whole new creativity challenge (see http://www.fuzz2buzz.com/en/creativity-wired).

What is your favorite ‘day’?

Jennifer, Please share

Jennifer, Please share details about the Glow in the Dark Dog Poo! In Maine, we'll have to call Thursday a day of rest. Billboards are not permitted here. I hope you'll see the visual difference that makes when you come next month. Martha
