Training VET Sector Students
A practical workshop designed to assist trainers build a successful and satisfying career in the vocational training sector.
Training VET sector students is far different from training university students or employees. While the need for theoretical grounding is often different, VET sector students are from diverse cultures, domestic backgrounds and experiences.
The challenge is threefold:
1. Engaging a diverse range of fee paying students to achieve an educational outcome that is higher than basic ‘competence’
2. Creating a learning experience around set curriculum that is nourishing and educationally sound
3. Achieving an interaction and that both the student AND trainer has enjoyed
Challenging Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma students to be the best they can be revolves around great classroom management, engaging teaching-learning activities and a disciplined approach to teaching. A difficult and some would say impossible task.
Workshop outcomes:
You will learn how to:
• Use a variety of methods to engage and integrate those from different cultural backgrounds
• Set a classroom management structure that best relates to the demographic and psychometric profile of your students
• Target working (mature age) learners and non-working learners by using different activities
• Keep students motivated so that they:
- Arrive to class on time (an often difficult task)
- Achieve higher than average attendance rates
- Complete assigned homework tasks
• Keep students on track with set evaluation tasks
• Walk the fine-line between education and entertainment
